Amazon.com After nearly 200 episodes of the broadcast series and several theatrical features, the fans still wanted more of Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura ("Those Obnoxious Aliens"): Inaba the Dreamer (1985) marked the debut of the OVAs. Shinobu is pondering what the future may hold, when a boy in a rabbit suit literally lands at her feet. Inaba is a member of the Destiny Production Management Bureau, and when he drops a "subspace key," Shinobu, Lum, and Ataru get a peek at their future lives. By passing through various doors, they see which friends they might end up marrying. None of these futures looks very promising--but none of them may be the real future. An odd mixture of fantasy, sci-fi, and Alice in Wonderland, Inaba the Dreamer offers some funny moments, but the brief running time (57 minutes) keeps the filmmakers from really exploring the comic possibilities.
