West German Pottery

Description

Fabulous vintage WGP! Along with Scheurich, Carstens of Tönnieshof was one of the major producers of West German pottery during the post war era. The company was founded in 1946 after most of their former factories, located in the new DDR, were expropriated by East German authorities. Carstens operated until their bankruptcy in 1977.

This large floor vase stands an impressive 16" high. (The last two numbers in the code on the bottom refer to its height in centimetres: 40.) Brown, speckled brown, and turquoise with various textures.

This has a few minor chips, pictured, but is nonetheless a spectacular example of fine MCM pottery. Perfectly splendid!
